Action on knife crime

In areas most affected by knife crime, the government, police and local organisations are taking targeted action to prevent violence and keep our communities safe.

As part of this action, you might see:

  • increased visibility including police patrols, specialist teams and a stronger community safety presence
  • new technology to detect and deter crime, such as knife arches, metal detectors, Live Facial Recognition, drones and CCTV
  • practical safety and prevention measures, including better lighting, Safe Space schemes, youth engagement and support for those at risk

This builds on progress the government is making on tackling knife crime. Overall knife crime is down by 11%, as the government continues to make progress towards its target of halving it within a decade.

Who you can talk to

If you or anyone else is in immediate danger, call 999 now. For non-emergencies, call 101.

If you’re worried about knife crime, concerned about someone’s safety, or want to talk about something you’ve seen, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers.

You can report crime to Crimestoppers online or by phone on 111, completely anonymously. You’ll only ever be asked what you know, not who you are. Give information anonymously online.

Fearless, the youth service of Crimestoppers, gives young people a trusted place to learn about crime and a completely anonymous way to share information. Find out more about Fearless.

The No Place for Knives communications campaign is being delivered in Birmingham, Croydon and Westminster to highlight local action and discourage people from committing knife crime.
